A couple of tests recently... one is my use of the Canon T2i Rebel as a video camcorder:
I was primarily concerned with the video quality in low lighting - I used the Canon software which allows for remote shooting via the PC. The playing, singing, and audio are somewhat substandard, but again, I was just trying to get the video part down. Expect to see more examples in the future with some actual playing!
Also, I recently compared two different microphones, the Avantone CV-12 and the Studio Projects T3 tube mics. See my tests here: http://jasonbrianmerrill.com/t3_vs__cv12.html
In the summer of 2010, I attempted to run in North Carolina, on a summer night. I think I made it 3/10 of a mile before I had to walk a little, and run again. I could repeat this only two or three times before I had to quit altogether. It wasn't quite my time to run yet.
I was curious when inviting Ed to jam with Steve and I yesterday, considering Ed had been primarily a metal drummer. I had a feeling that he could pick up on some new grooves easily, considering his propensity toward the funky beatboxing he does. The attached file is the result of an hour's worth of jamming. The beginning is literally the first time we all jammed together at once. Keep in mind also that Ed was dealing with a set that he hasn't played in months, with a drumthrone that was falling apart, and certain cymbals not being entirely attached. Not to mention the whole kit was a bit dingy and in need of some TLC. Overall it was a good experience and hopefully we can also have something going more in the rock/jam sense. Of course, what we have going on ...
I used to have a zoom r16 I would use for idea recording, remote recording, and gig recording. What I found, is that I hardly ever used more than the onboard mics and a couple of tracks. So, I decided on the palm-sized zoom h4n. I sold my zoom r16 for a little over 300 bucks after fees and shipping, and found a zoom h4n for 200. If I get the itch for a portable studio, the zoom r24 looks more appealing anyway.
Isn't this what people are supposed to talk about when there is nothing else?
Anyhow, it has been quite nice here in Northeastern PA. Trying to set up a hiking group in the area on facebook, if you are around, be sure to join it:
This is, basically, what we've all been waiting for, so where is everyone? Let's get out there!
It has been a long winter...
